The Rundown: Rogue and Cyclops come to blows as Charles battles a powerful mutant with a secret they share.
The two X-Men teams find themselves under attack by a being whose psychic powers seem to rival Charles Xavier’s and they are losing. The man now known as Scurvy has the team trapped and a surprise appearance from Charles Xavier might be what the mutants need to stem the tide. At the same time, more about Corina Ellis’ past is revealed as she watches events unfold and prepares the next part of her plan.
With Xavier taking on Scurvy, the team gets a moment to regroup, but the simmering animosity between Scott and Rogue makes things more difficult as they are confronted by Ellis and her trustees, fellow mutants who have joined her ranks at the prison. After a tense standoff, both teams leave with their captured members, but the growing rift between the X-Men teams continues to widen.
The Story: Simone continues to craft a thrilling, thought-provoking and engaging story in this issue. This series is complicated and a necessary evolution for the mutants beyond the Krakoa era and I love the big swings it takes with each team’s philosophies. The tension is brilliantly done and adds awesome drama to every conversation between Cyclops and Rogue. An impressive story that continues to draw me to this series.
The Art: Garron delivers fantastic art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the story and how both the dramatic moments and the action are visually detailed and compelling.
